Michael Seltenreich

Lucerne Festival Season 6 Episode 1

Let's sharpen our ears for the music of the 21st century!

Each Summer, Lucerne Festival partners with the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation to present the "räsonanz" – Donor Concert where contemporary works are performed by top international orchestras and renowned soloists. On 12 September, the Munich Philharmonic and Lahav Shani have four exciting discoveries in store for all curious listeners. They will present, among other works, the Swiss premiere of "The Prisoner's Dilemma" by New York-based Israeli Michael Seltenreich (a commission by the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic, and Lucerne Festival, with funding from the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation).

Lucerne Festival dramaturge Mark Sattler sat down with Michael Seltenreich to discuss the origin of his large-scale piece, how it has been perceived in Seltenreich's native country, and what he's most curious for when it comes to the Swiss premiere of "The Prisoner's Dilemma".

Hear the Swiss premiere of "The Prisoner's Dilemma" live at the "räsonanz" – Donor Concert" on 12 September at Lucerne Festival. Lahav Shani will conduct the Munich Philharmonic.
